Kaamos is the Finnish word for polar night, the night lasting more than 24 hours inside the polar circles. This fits the description of the Kaamos curse perfectly; a night lasting 24 hours. Though it doesn't seem to do much, the Kaamos curse is just about the most annoying thing to happen to the player in-game. It has appeared in Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand and Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django.

[edit] Effects of the Kaamos curse

The Kaamos curse is an abnormality within a solar boy who has been exposed to too much water (it is assumed that dark matter is contained within this water). This curse prevents the solar boy from absorbing sunlight and using it as such. If this doesn't seem too disastrous, think about this situation; you are at the Piledriver with next to no battery/energy with your weapon. You have no solar nuts and you could probably die within the first few seconds. To make matters worse, you can't even start the Piledriver. This is a curse designed to sabotage.

The player also gains a dark blue colour.

[edit] Getting the Kaamos curse

The effects of the Kaamos curse.

There is a different way of getting the curse in each game.

[edit] Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand

In Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, the curse is gained in the Abyss. It is possible to get the curse before going to Sol City; after defeating the trap at the end of the dungeon, the player can open a chest that contains the Javelin frame. A shower of water strikes Django, and then a ghostly Carmilla appears to tell Django that she cannot allow him to enter Sol City, and so bestows the Kaamos curse upon him. After leaving the dungeon, Sabata appears and slightly expresses concern, stating that Carmilla may have been "a little harsh", but still laughs at Django. Otenko then says that Morning Dew from the Solar Tree could cure it.

If the player has already passed Sol City, the curse can be earned in (basically) the same way. The aforementioned chest that would now normally contain Nightmare grenades will contain nothing. Django will be alarmed as a shower of water strikes him. Either Carmilla or Sabata appears and tells Django that he has the Kaamos curse. This is completely random and will probably only happen 3 times out of 10.

[edit] Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django

It is MUCH easier to get the Kaamos curse in Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django. The player simply has to stand outside the rain for a set amount of time and will earn the Kaamos curse. It easy to tell when the player has it since upon changing area, a mysterious voice (presumably Dainn) will tell Django that he has the Kaamos curse.

[edit] Lifting the Kaamos curse

As with getting it, there is a different way to get rid of the curse in each game.

[edit] Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand

Getting rid of the Kaamos curse manually is difficult. The player must get morning dew from the solar tree by standing under it EXACTLY at sunrise. The curse passes automatically after 24 hours.

[edit] Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django

Just like it is easier to get the curse, it is just as easy to get rid of it. There is an item which Lita sells in her shop which gets rid of any curse, named Drop of Sun (it is assumed that this item was designed specifically to get rid of the Kaamos curse). Simply use that item and Django will return to normal. The curse also passes automatically after 24 hours.
