Gun Del Sol

The Gun del Sol in its full glory; sol lens lvl III, dragoon frame and quint battery.

The Gun del Sol is the ultimate solar gun and Django's signature weapon throughout the entire Boktai series. It can only be wielded by a solar child, a child with solar blood running through their veins. It was previously owned by Red Ringo before being passed onto Django.

[edit] History of the Gun del Sol

The Gun del Sol was initially created by Smith, the local blacksmith of San Miguel. He made it for Ringo with which to hunt vampires. Before going to defeat the Count of Groundsoaking Blood - his arch-rival - Ringo left the gun with Django to hunt vampires should he lose the fight (which he did, eventually becoming a vampire himself).

[edit] Gameplay

[edit] Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand

See List of Gun del Sol parts

In Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, the Gun del Sol was the main/only weapon available for use. There were 4 parts to it; the lens, the frame, the battery and the grenade. Each part would affect the capability and strength of the weapon. The player could also earn dark gun parts, which would only work with each other. The finished dark gun appears to be the model of the Gun del Hell, Sabata's weapon.

[edit] Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django

The use of the Gun del Sol is much more limited in Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django as it was stolen around the first chapters by a vampire, later revealed to be Ringo. Although he is a vampire, the solar blood running through him allowed him to use the gun. Django later earns the gun back, broken. Afterwards, he takes it to Smith who fixes it for him, although its capabilities are much more limited; instead of having access to all the gun parts he used to have, the gun can only fire a sol elemented solar shot(which can be charged as well). Black Django can also use this weapon (like Ringo could in his vampire form), but each time he fires a solar shot he gets injured (likewise, charging the gun causes continuous damage until it is fired).

[edit] Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack

In Boktai 3: Sabata's Counterattack, most of the capabilities of the Gun del Sol have been restored. It is possible to change the lens and the frame of the weapon, though the variety of frames from the different "sets" has diminished (ie, Dragoon and Fighter are available, but not Knight or Crusader). As well, lenses no longer go through level-ups. The battery cannot be changed, and grenades have been removed as an attachment, but CAN be used with a new frame known as "Bomber".

[edit] Wild Bunch

In the final battle of Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, Django must fire a new solar gun attack called wild bunch against the Immortal/Eternal Hel. Initially Django fires a solar elemented wild bunch, but this has no effect on Hel, so it is then that Sabata joins in the fight. Together, the Gun del Sol and Gun del Hell create a lunar wild bunch attack. Although the Gun del Sol and Gun del Hell are similar in capabilities, the wild bunch attack is the only known attack in which the Gun del Sol and Gun del Hell are compatible.
